Maintaining Asparagus
Keep the soil heavily mulched and weeded. Asparagus does not like competing with weeds!
Do not harvest asparagus spears for the first two years, as it needs time to grow its root system. Harvest new spears when they are 6-9 inches, before the tip has started to open up. Asparagus grows rapidly during the summer, and you'll need to harvest every day or two throughout the season.
How to harvest Asparagus
Cut off the yellow/brown spears with scissors or a sharp knife just above the soil.
How to store Asparagus
Wrap asparagus spears in a plastic bag and store in the refrigerator.
